Minister must break silence on experimental treatment on children

Children struggling with gender dysphoria should be shown nothing but support. But that does not mean they should be put on a path towards chemical castration and bodily mutilation.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard must break his silence on experimental gender treatments on children.

Media reporting today of a study released by Australian gender clinicians from Westmead Hospital criticising the medicalisation of children’s gender dysphoria requires a response from the Minister.

Almost every day new information comes to light questioning the preferred practice of prescribing puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and even surgery to children who are confused about their gender.

The Westmead study casts doubt on these treatments and reveals that factors such as autism, family trauma, sexual abuse and depression play a role in a child being uncomfortable with their biological sex.

There is an epidemic of children presenting at gender clinics where the primary approach is to affirm their confusion and put them on a path towards gender transition, often resulting in infertility and bodily mutilation.

The Christian Democratic Party strongly supports One Nation MLC Mark Latham’s Education Legislation Amendment (Parental Rights) Bill 2020 before the NSW Parliament to ban the teaching of gender fluid ideology in schools.

The CDP urges the Government to adopt it as a Government bill.

Children struggling with their gender should obviously be shown nothing but love and support. But that does not mean they should be put on a path towards altering their bodies in ways they might come to regret later in life.

It is disappointing that the health minister declined to comment when asked by journalist Bernard Lane about the Westmead study.

Myself and CDP leader, the Reverend Honourable Fred Nile MLC, have been warning about the harms of radical gender fluid ideology on children since before the 2017 same-sex marriage plebiscite.
