Greens’ coal attack threatens our living standards

Greens Senator Larissa Waters’ latest attack on Queensland’s coal wealth makes her an existential threat to the living standards of every Queenslander, according to Conservative Party Senate candidate Lyle Shelton.

“It’s nothing personal, but it is imperative that Senator Waters is voted out at the next election,” Mr Shelton said.

Mr Shelton’s comments were in response to media reports today that Senator Waters has introduced a bill to ban thermal coal mining in Queensland’s rich Galilee basin.

“The Greens’ sustained anti-coal leadership has even infected the LNP with state leader Deb Frecklington calling for a ‘future beyond coal’ despite there being hundreds of years of supply.

“Anti-coal politicians never tell people how many jobs will go and how many less hospitals and schools will be built as a result of the lost billions of dollars in coal royalty taxes raked in by the State Government.”

The Minerals Council estimates that the Greens are endangering 19,000 construction jobs and 14,000 operational jobs.

A record $5 billion in coal tax royalties this financial year is helping prop up the Palaszczuk-Trad Labor Government which is surging towards $83 billion in debt.

With a similarly anti-coal Shorten Government likely to be elected in Canberra, Mr Shelton urged voters to take out third-party insurance by voting Conservative in the Senate.
